Cool Water On A Hot Thirsty Day

Nothing can quench your thirst on a hot day like a cool drink of water. I was reminded of this last Saturday as my two sons, Gabriel and Michael, and I hiked up Harney Peak in the Black Hills of South Dakota. We knew it was going to be a hot day so we each took two bottles of water. The Hike is three miles up and three miles back down the Mountain--a six mile round trip.

Starting from the East Coast and coming west, Harney Peak is the highest point in elevation until you reach the Rockies. Once we reached the top the view was spectacular. About a mile and a half into our descent we came upon a small clear cool stream. By this point our water was running low. How we wished we could drink right out of that stream.

This experience reminded me of the words of Jesus: "Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes let him take the free gift of the water of life.’’ (Revelation 22:17) Only Jesus can satisfy the thirst of our soul.

This Sunday we will study some of the blessing of following Christ from Psalm 103 and talk about the water of life that only He can give. People all around us are searching for this water. May we drink from His water of life and share it with as many people as possible. As the church, we are called to care for one another, but our first mission is to reach the lost.

Look for opportunities to share the living water with others this week. Pray with me for our service in the park this evening and our services this weekend. Invite someone to come and worship with us.
